Geotourist is delighted to partner with Visit Alexandria VA on an audio tour celebrating the Hermione Voyage that will be mooring at Old Town Harbor in early June.
The Hermione is a reproduction of the original 18th century vessel. An engaging endeavor began 20 years ago to assemble an authentic sea-faring replica and relive the historic transatlantic voyage, celebrating General Lafayette and French alliance.
Following sea trials and training, the Hermione set sail for this historic voyage in April, from the mouth of the River Charente, in Port des Barques, where the Marquis Lafayette boarded March 1780.
The ship will make landfall at Yorktown to mark the surrender of Lord Cornwallis. The voyage then will move up the coast to Old Town Alexandria Harbor and Mt. Vernon, then sail on to visit ports of Annapolis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Newport and then Halifax before the return journey to France. A packed schedule with cultural events, exhibitions and educational programs accompany the Hermione Voyage.
