Geotourist partners with 9 English DMOs and organisations to deliver digital storytelling experience.
Award winning GPS-audio tour brand, Geotourist, is delighted to announce the launch of phase one of Epic England, a series of audio tours that ties together the history, geography, myths and legends of England on one audio-mapping platform for the first time – and it’s free for users.
Working with nine world-class English DMOs and organisations, Epic England transcends both time and geography to document what has gone before, allowing both residents and tourists alike to understand what makes England the nation that it is today. Saxons, Founding Fathers, boy wizards, vampires all take their place to tell stories of England, past and present the country – narrated by local voices, these stories are now pinned to the Geotourist digital audio map of the world for others to discover.
With tours of England’s great cities, countryside and coastlines, the tours shine a light on some of England’s defining moments, such as D-Day and the Plague, as well as points that underline the importance of local heritage, geography and provenance. Through the Epic England audio tours, Geotourist and partners have captured these stories digitally and preserved them for today and tomorrow, protecting local content for generations to come.
The Epic England project capitalises on Geotourist’s already existing audio guide app technology and extensive network of partnerships with English tourist boards, destinations, attractions and organisations, as well as our extensive network of global digital audio tours.
The tours will help attract visitors by moving in-country visitors between English destinations, as well as audio in foreign battlegrounds, with the key aim of inspiring inbound tourism to the UK. Ultimately, Epic England has been developed to help visitors make the most out of their visit, delivering free-to-use tours via a free-to-download app and mobile site.
Shaon Talukder, CEO, of Geotourist said,
“We are proud to deliver Epic England for so many reasons, with the top nine being the iconic partners that we are working with as part of phase one. We’re delighted that they share our vision of place-making and ensuring that there is something in place for visitors to engage with. Discovering what defines a place and its people in an accessible way, is what will inspire people to explore more and recommend destinations which are relatively in reach. Travel is about the moments that stop you in your tracks; a view that takes your breath away, a scent that imprints in your mind and a story that connects you with the people who have gone before and what their world meant to them. These stories, heard through modern-day storytellers and locals, digitally define the towns, villages and cities within the tours forever. Sharable over social media, the Epic England tours can be listened to on location, or from anywhere in the world and be shared with family and friends, just like a postcard. The potential for global reach is undeniably real and simple.”
