Temple of Dendur in the Sackler Wing was dismantled from its original location when the Aswan High Dam was built. The Egyptian government bequeathed the temple as a gift to the U.S. and the Met selected as its host. The 800 tons of antiquities were reassembled at the museum in 1978.
